Pacific Beach Ale House is known as a World Class Brewery and Restaurant, and the Best Destination for Craft Beer Aficionados. Entries will be judged based on beer quality and commercial viability as well as how they represent San Diego through their flavors and incorporation of indigenous items. Winning homebrewers will team with local breweries to brew their beers as part of the first-annual San Diego Estate Beer Project Pro-Am Competition, which will take place at Guild Fest, the official opening event of San Diego Beer Week. Entries for the QUAFF competition will be accepted through July 30, and interested homebrewers can register to compete online. Just like last year, pro brewers were able to select amateur recipes submitted by local homebrewers. Over the next three months, those beers will be brewed and tapped at release events where the homebrewers can share their creations with friends, family and the beer-loving public.

The Beers
There is no on-site parking, so plan ahead to find street parking, take a cab, bike, or walk. Local teaming of professional and recreational brewers bigger, better in year two Last year, San Diego Beer News (SDBN) rolled out its inaugural Homebrew Summer, a program designed to connect local homebrewers with professional beermakers throughout the county. Beginning tomorrow—the first official day of summer—SDBN will begin sharing homebrew versions of commercial recipes from local breweries. When walking into the Pacific Beach Ale House you’ll wonder if you’ve entered an upscale ski lodge; think luxurious log cabin meets the beach. Rich, dark colors create a dramatic interior; plush chocolate leather couches, large chocolate leather booths, and dark wood tables fill the space.

Homebrew Summer is back
Fish tacos, shrimp and chips, and gourmet burgers and sandwiches are among the delicious Main Event options. Inspired by San Diego’s appreciation for craft beer and constant craving for coastal cuisine sourced from fresh, local ingredients, PB Ale House is uniquely suited to offer the best of both worlds. Located in the heart of Pacific Beach along its iconic boardwalk, PB Ale House epitomizes the Southern California lifestyle with a stylish and relaxed atmosphere, spectacular rooftop sunset views, and a full suite of craft beer selections brewed onsite by an award-winning brewer. A hand-crafted beer and season cocktail portfolio, farm-to-table menu selections, attentive staff and soothing ocean breezes make Pacific Beach Ale House the perfect venue for corporate receptions and social gatherings. The dinner menu offers the same great tastes as lunch, but ups the ante with their Main Events.
Beers
Eric Leitstein, tapping into the modern-day craft beer movement, established the Pacific Beach AleHouse 14 years ago in the heart of the funky boardwalk town. The above is the first step toward the hopeful creation of San Diego “estate beers” on a professional level. SDBN is proud to be able to expand its Homebrew Summer coverage to include the pro-am collaborations, beers from which will debut at participating breweries in addition to their presence at Guild Fest. For sweet endings most diners indulge in the fried to order Domingo Churro (churro sundae), a gustatory extravaganza with homemade churros drizzled in chocolate sauce and dulce de leche, then topped with whipped cream and chunks of assorted candy bars. These include an A-(leHouse) List of burgers (barbecue, beer cheeseburger, truffle, pimento, blue cheese and the plant-based Impossible) with a side of fries or dirty beans.
The Pacific Beach Ale House gives you the chance to experience the finest of dining at the beach. As a world class brewery and restaurant you’ll enjoy craft beers made on-site along with a carefully created menu that highlights local ingredients in classic California cuisine. Spend your afternoon on their roof deck enjoying the picturesque scenery, sipping a craft beer, and sharing a flatbread pizza with friends and family. Widely known in San Diego for its award-winning brewer, PB Ale House offers seasonal variations of numerous craft beers and cocktails perfectly paired with a full menu that features iconic dishes made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Our newly remodeled interior is rich with the energy and passion of avid sports-lovers and beachgoers, adding excitement to a comfortable atmosphere.

A popular dish you won’t want to miss out on is the Lobster Mac & Cheese – Maine lobster, rigatoni, shaved parmesan, and white cheddar bechamel. Ask your server to pair one of the PB Ale House renowned craft beers with your entree to take your culinary experience to the next level. Inspired by San Diego's appreciation for craft beer and craving for delicious, creative cuisine using locally sourced ingredients, PB Ale House is uniquely suited to provide guests with the best of both worlds.
The Brewery
This flexible outdoor event space features seating for 75 and combines a relaxed Southern California atmosphere with high top seating, plasma screen televisions, exquisite coastal views and a private full service bar. Going a step further, this year we allowed breweries to go beyond the bank of homebrew recipes and team up with homebrewers they have pre-existing relationships with. In most cases, pro brewers asked their regulars if they’d like to brew a recipe on their commercial system.
This turned out to be the most popular way local breweries chose to participate in Homebrew Summer for 2022. And that’s not the only element of Homebrew Summer that’s new this year. This Thanksgiving, join us at PB AleHouse as we keep the tradition alive in the heart of Pacific Beach.
